It was an intensive – and insightful – few days for our 70 MMM friends travelling to Israel in September 2017, not to mention a testament to the unique culture of our Club. Two cities in stark contrast to each other were on the agenda: the young, dynamic and forward-looking Tel Aviv – the capital of innovative ideas. And Jerusalem – religious hub, World Heritage Site and living history. Our MMM representatives found themselves immersed in a whole new world of flavours and aromas while visiting local markets and enjoying a cooking session with TV chef Tom Franz, who introduced them to the Jewish dietary laws.
The Strauss Group gave our delegates an exciting peek behind the curtain of Israel’s largest food & beverage company and its incubator, The Kitchen. Ten start-ups from the food tech sector had them hooked with presentations of their business concepts. Incredible innovative strength that was truly inspirational. The programme was rounded out by exclusive visits to the Church of the Redeemer in East Jerusalem including members’ assembly, to the Mormon University and the “Shrine of the Book” at the Israel Museum, as well as a trek up the Temple Mount.
Content-wise, the pinnacle of the trip included talks by Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Vieweger, Managing Director of the two institutions of the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology in the Holy Land based in Jerusalem and Amman, Dr. Gil Yaron (Middle East correspondent of the ‘WELT’), and Father Nikodemus Schnabel, Prior Administrator of the Dormitio Abbey in Jerusalem.
